摘要:
MRI is based on registration of the emission of an electromagnetic signal emitted by protons by different tissues (rich in water). The density of tissues such as bones does not modify the image formed. It is essential that the technique have this characteristic because the central nervous system is enclosed in bony structures. MRI is therefore an indispensable tool in neurology that allows study of the anatomy of the brain and spinal cord, which until now could not be examined fully using scanner or myelography. Conditions that do not systematically reveal visible lesions using the scanner (some inflammatory, degenerative conditions or vascular disorders or tumours) can be diagnosed using MW or this technique can be used to examine the brain stem or the cerebellum. MRI provides cross-section images of the spinal cord and the internal structure can be visualised.
