Stereotactic open microsurgery for intraventricular tumors

Stereotactic open microsurgery was performed for 8 cases of intraventricular tumor of the lateral ventricle. Small craniotomy and corticotomy were made in the brain surface. For example in the cases of tumors in the trigone, corticotomy was made in the upper parietal(for left side) or superior temporal lobe(for right side). A brain spatula attached to the stereotactic frame was introduced to the target(the surface of the brain tumor) and was opened to obtain working space during dissecting tumors. Feeding arteries were easily coagulated by direct observation through an operative microscope. Eight intraventricular tumors were successfully operated on without any serious neurological deficits. This procedure has advantages of exact access to lesions and control of bleeding during operation.
