Peace is something more than the mere absence of violence. Building peace means getting a profound understanding of human instincts, and of the ways in which these instincts can help us to create, instead of leading us to destroy. Our own nature and our search for freedom can lead us toward war or peace. Instead of solely focusing on avoiding violence, we need to start looking at its causes: oppression. We discover then a new concept, a capacity inherent to human beings: non-oppression, or the ability to become free with others.
