Prebreakdown light emission in liquid helium

摘要
In this paper, the observation results of the prebreakdown light emission phenomena under divergent fields in liquid helium are reported. Two structures of light emission, filamentary and bush-like, were found for both positive and negative polarities. Most of the negative light emission should a filamentary structure, while it was a bush-like one for the positive. Light emission appeared for only a few microseconds for negative needle, while it lasts much longer than 25 mu s for positive needle. The pulse frequency of the light emission differed between the polarities.
