New electro-optic cell for non-standard electro-optic measurements

摘要
The electro-optic cell is an important element in the electro-optic apparatus. Its parameters, construction design and material may contribute significantly to optimization of the experimental process. To avoid some disadvantages of the electro-optic cell, used until the present moment in the Institute of Physical Chemistry (IPC) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), we constructed a new one, which is more miniature and universal than the old one. Its advantages are considered in details. We did some comparative measurements of beta-FeOOH particles, which are regarded to be relatively well studied, with the two cells to check the reproducibility of the results and also to search for some drawbacks, which are described in this paper. The suggested new electro-optic cell represents an useful step in the improvement of the electric light scattering (ELS) electro-optic measurement in IPC-BAS.
