摘要
The chemistry of oxonium ion/crown ether compounds is reviewed with an emphasis on structural aspects. The crown ethers in question range from 12-crown-4, through 15-crown-5, 18-crown-6, 21-crown-7, 24-crown-8 up to 30-crown-10, and in all compounds discussed, there are oxonium. ions or hydrated protons (H+.[H2O](n)). The range of hydration of proton varies, not only with the choice of crown ether used in the synthesis, but also the choice of anion. In 18-crown-6, the H3O+ oxonium ion is selectively bound within the macrocycle, mainly on size/fit arguments, but in all other crown ethers, a variety of oxonium ions are observed. In all complexes, extensive hydrogen bonding is present within the crystal structure.
