摘要
Composite tubular structures exhibit a superior energy dissipating capacity and they comprise immense prospective as energy dissipating elements to substitute conventional aluminium tubular components in automotive vehicles, marine and aircrafts. The utilization of composite bi-tubular structures has received more significance in the crashworthiness design of energy absorbing devices for safety of occupants during car collisions. This research paper presents the energy absorption analysis of novel double section triangular tubes subjected to axial impact loading. The proposed bi-tubular glass fabric reinforced epoxy polymer composite triangular tubes were manufactured by hand layup technique. The successfully manufactured double section triangular tubes were subjected to axial impact loading with varied impact speed of 8 m/s and 10 m/s. The noteworthy results associated with the double section triangular tubes highlighted the benefits of utilizing eight layered glass fabric composite tubes in the aircraft manufacturing industries to design a suitable crash security system for absorbing energy during collisions.
