摘要
The Birch alkylation reaction, used in several synthetic paths in organic chemistry, faces the complication of the lack of stability of its products. Different mechanisms have been suggested for the decomposition step, which render different decomposition products. The comparison of these mechanisms can help to understand the origin of this complication, and, at the same time, to overcame it. This study shows the results of theoretical calculations applied to their comparison. The conclusions are in agreement with our previous experimental results. (C) 2003 Elsevier B.V.
