The effect of surface melting on the steady, mixed convection, boundary-layer flow over a vertical flat surface embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium previously studied by Ahmad and Pop (2014) is further considered. The results given in Ahmad and Pop (2014) are extended to M > 0 and to gimel > 0 (aiding flow). The main conclusion is that solutions are possible only if M < 1 with the limit as M -> 1 being discussed. The critical values, identified in Ahmad and Pop (2014), are examined in more detail and the free convection limit derived. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
