Development of 2-D and 3-D Tyranno SA fiber SiC matrix composites for fusion power reactors

2D and 3D SiCf/SiC composites were prepared starting from Tyranno SA fiber preforms: SiC matrix was obtained by CVI and PIP techniques. With the aim to increase mainly the density and the thermal diffusivity, some samples were subjected to a SiC powder slurry infiltration step combined with PIP. Some other samples, at various degrees of densification, were performed under vacuum using a molten Si-Cr alloy. Performances of the composites were evaluated in terms of thermal diffusivity and mechanical properties.
