摘要
The objective of this manuscript was to prospect with the use of Cyperus essential oils, besides investigating the antimicrobial activity of the genus. Questel Orbit Intelligence selected patents hove revealed the use of Cyperus essential oil or combined in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) compositions applied to women's health, anxiety, depression, bladder inflammation, liver fat, pain management and problems with blood circulation. The results revealed the antimicrobial effect of Cyperus in humans and animals, as well as anti-inflammatory and anticancer effect. The articles selected from The LENS database indicated the study of oils from twenty species of Cyperus, especially Cyperus rotundus (45%); Cyperus scariosus and Cyperus articulatus (both with 10%) and Cyperus esculentus (corresponding to about 5%). In addition to the antimicrobial effect, the oils of these species showed antifungal, antioxidant, insecticidal activities, use in Ayurvedic preparations, food use and potential for the manufacture of cosmetics, toiletry, hygiene and cleaning products.
