摘要：

This paper reviews the development and evaluation of a prototype "expert" system(1) for the setup and troubleshooting of ultrasonic welting of thermoplastics. Real world applications were tested to determine the feasibility of developing such a system as well as evaluating the accuracy of the inference engine. Overall, the system found the proper setup parameters within 1 to 5 tries. Only in a few of the case studies did the system diverge from proper parameter settings.
