摘要
In the present work, two semi-empirical models together with their assumptions and applications for the prediction of various mechanical properties of composites are presented. First, the Residual Properties Model (RPM) was developed to predict the degradation of any mechanical property of a composite after any type of damage. The RPM has been successfully applied to predict the residual strength of materials after damage due to low energy impact, water absorption etc. Next, the Modulus Prediction Model (MPM) was developed to predict the variation of the elastic modulus of particulate composite of any type as a function of filler volume fraction. According to this model the main parameters affecting the modulus variation are the filler-matrix degree of adhesion and the degree of dispersion. Depending on the combination of these parameters, the elasticity modulus versus filler-volume fraction can be represented by a curve of different shape. The MPM model has been successfully applied to a series of diverse types of particulates. At this point it worth to mention that for the application of both models, one needs to know only two experimental points.
