Memories of and reflections on play

My fondest memories of play created a better more empowering me. Growing up in a low SES neighborhood with two hard working parents, life sometimes felt lonely and harsh. But, When I played, I was secured, spoke intelligently, and was proud of my family and what we had. It was through my play that I felt whole and not broken, or out place as I often did in school. I realize today the necessity of play for many children like myself. The need to feel safe and break away from life's daily challenges. I attribute play to helping me shape a more positive take on life and serving as a key component for developing a growth type of mindset. Thus, I believe play can be attributed to facilitating flexible mindsets in young children.
