摘要
Almost all well fields in Eastern Slavonia are of low capacity and, in addition, their iron, manganese and arsenic concentrations exceed those allowed for drinking water. This is why the authorities concluded a long time ago that a joint regional system, with great quantities of purified drinking water, must be built. The solution devised to this effect, was based on great ground water reserves found in the area between Velika Kopanica and Gundinci. In the meantime, the previously drilled wells have been abandoned for various reasons. Luckily, a. high capacity well field was discovered almost by accident a little more to the south near the Sikirevci village, close to the Sava River. The water from this well field has proven to be of excellent quality, and it can be consumed without any additional treatment. The discovery of this well field lead to construction of a regional water supply system which will supply water, in the first phase, to. the eastern portion of the Brod and Posavina County and to the most parts of the Vukovar and Srijem County. This well field is currently being developed, and principal and interregional pipelines are being built. Preparations are also under way for the construction of other water facilities required for this scheme. The system is due for completion in 2010, but the extended Vinkovci area will receive water from this new water supply system as early as in late spring this year.
