摘要：
A review on 39th Congress and 42nd General Assembly of the International Union of Pure & Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) is presented. The congresses focus on research and education in the chemical sciences, while the general assemblies hold business meetings. It is reported that IUPAC's success in the future will be connected to the quality of the union's communication strategy and practices.
