Synthesis and tribological properties of nanoparticles of molybdenum trisulfide as a representative of a new class of friction modifiers

摘要
Molybdenum trisulfide nanoparticles soluble and stable in hydrocarbon media were first synthesized by reacting of inverse microemulsions of ammonium (sodium) molybdate with hydrogen sulfide in organic solvents in the presence of modifier additives. The size of the nanoparticles was determined by small-angle X-ray scattering and scanning force microscopy, and their average radius was found to be 2.5 nm. The study of friction-reducing properties of the obtained compounds in solutions of mineral oils showed that the nanoparticles are more efficient lubricants than conventional molybdenum complexes.
