The effect of orthognathic surgery on the temporomandibular joint

摘要：
Orthognathic surgery has been implicated both as a cause of temporomandibular joint disorders and as a cure for such conditions. This article discusses possible ways in which orthognathic surgery can lead to temporomandibular disorders and suggests methods for their prevention. It also cautions against the use of orthognathic surgery solely to treat preexisting temporomandibular disorders due to the unpredictability of the results.
