The Design and Implementation of the New Online English Learning System

As the science and technology develops, more and more tools are invented to help people. For example, the Internet, which is thought as the greatest invention in the 20th century, is used to build up an English-learning system for college students. At the moment, most of the universities in China have adopted this system, but can this so-called web-based autonomous learning system be used properly? And, will students' English level thrive under it? In my experience, I have to say no. Since I have studied in college for two years, I have been involved in the on-line learning system for two years, too. The system, which contains English texts, exercises, further reading and many other reference books, is excellent, in fact. On the other hand, the system requires students to keep on line for a regulated time. No matter what they do during the time, the hours will be recorded so long as they log in the webpage. Such a not perfect system leaves students many different kinds of methods to cheat. We students and most teachers know it very well, then why do we still use it? Isn't it a absurd deed that teachers and students make a fool of each other? As a student, I don't think this system will help us learn English better and in my eyes, it just wastes our time. The leaders of our colleges should be alerted to change a new English-learning system. The Internet is a good tool, but we should not forget our original aim, which is to learn but not to cheat.
