Given that the price of providing health care for the nation's citizens is ever increasing, the health care industry has been forced to look for high-quality practitioners at a fraction of the price of physician-based health care. This report provides a brief synopsis of pertinent health care policies and publications relevant to acute and critical care patient environments, which drive practice issues that affect the acute care nurse practitioner.
