摘要
Synthetic gypsum CaSO4 center dot 2H(2)O (also called flue gas desulpurization - FGD gypsum) is a co-product resulted from the wet process of flue gas desulphurisation in thermal power plants. The gases are desulphurised with an injection of a lime or limestone suspension. The product that is initially formed by gas desulphurization is calcium sulphite. This, by forced oxidation, turns into calcium sulfate dihydrate - CaSO4 center dot 2H(2)O, initially in the form of a suspension. The article presents the main characteristics of synthetic gypsum obtained in the industrial environment comparative with natural gypsum. It also presents the opportunity to capitalize this co-product in the building materials industry.
