Dispersion Characteristics of Two-dimensional Capacitor-connected Grids

This study expands the previous study on 1-D capacitor-connected grid (CCG) waveguide by expanding it to 2-D structures, and explores the potential of 2-D CCG surface waveguide to be applied as UWB multi-terminal data transfer channels. The fractional bandwidth achieved by a 2-D CCG with coupling capacitance of 1 mu F is 189.1% along the diagonal and 187.2% along the sides. Such 2-D CCG waveguides exhibit an important property from its 1-D case: support either forward or backward wave propagation mode. Theoretical dispersion characteristics of the two modes are studied with the aid of two 2-D CCG examples with different electric coupling strengths.
