POPULAR MUSIC IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF YOUTH'S AESTHETIC REFLECTIONS

The aim of this publication is to analyze popular music as a dominant area of young people's musical preferences through the prism of student reflections concerning this kind of creativeness. The research material which was subjected to initial interpretative analyses constitutes purposively selected fragments of interviews conducted with 52 students of Polish upper secondary schools. The students' reflections concerning the artistic and aesthetic dimensions of music preferred by them were encompassed in four field problems: 1) Emotions and expression; 2) Music and lyrics; 3) Skills and talent; 4) Popular music as art. The research results reveal the educational values of popular music as well as indicate possibilities of making use of it in the sphere of youth's education.
