Spatial dynamics of the bank vole (Clethrionomys glareolus) in a fragmented landscape

The abundance of bank voles was estimated at 27 sampling plots situated on a dyke network within an area of intensive agriculture. Local populations occupying hedge fragments, were characterised by different dynamics. Local ''extinctions'' are interpreted in relation to the size and the degree of isolation of hedge fragments. We hypothesize that, in this kind of landscape, this rodent may function as a metapopulation.
