摘要:
This paper examines probable scenarios of Mexico City's future look ahead into the first quarter of the next century. Based upon current processes and trends, the likely demographic, economic, and cultural changes are identified. Specifically these include: a downturn in population growth, with settlement expansion moving even further outwards and some inner-city redevelopment; a gradually (middle)-aging population; an increasing local neighborhood orientation and a hybridization of culture; and rising tendency for the homeplace and workplace to overlap. Although major problems confront the city, the author remains optimistic about the medium and long-term resilience of the city and its inhabitants to survive, if not to thrive.
