Silicoflagellate Stratigraphy for Neogene to Quaternary marine sediments in Greece

An intensive research, using Silicoflagellates from several sections of the Aegean Islands, has been taken place in Greece during the last years. Especially, successions on the island of Crete, Miles and Aegina were investigated in more detail. Seven new Neogene Subzones and a new Pleistocene one were defined: Distephanus speculum minutus Interval-zone, Dictyocha aspera aspera Subzone, Mesocena (syn. Paramesocena) circulus Subzone, Dictyocha brevispina brevispina Subzone, Dictyocha cf. neonautica Subzone, Cannopilus major Subzone, Distephanus boliviensis boliviensis Subzone, and Octactis pulchra Subzone respectively. One new species, a new variation and a new combination are also proposed: Dictyocha hellenica FRYDAS n. sp., Dictyocha arbutusensis (BUKRY) var. cycladica FRYDAS n. var. and Distephanus boliviensis (FRENGUELLI) var. triommata FRYDAS n. comb.
