摘要
Over the last years Brazil has been mainly relying on hydroelectric power for the supply of its electrical energy. Physical restraints and poor rainfalls have forced Brazil to look at alternative sources for generating its ever-increasing demand for electrical power. Biomass and particularly bagasse are, seen as the future fuel resources for cogeneration. The existing infrastructure of the Brazilian sugar industry gives it a pole position in becoming an important electricity producer in the near future. The article describes the present position and the trends in the Brazilian sugar industry vis-a-vis cogeneration.
