摘要
Turning is the process of removing the excess material or unwanted material from the work piece using cutting tool. Surface roughness is an index which determines the quality of machined products and is influenced by the cutting parameters and it is indirectly dictated by cutting force generated during operation. The number of turning experiments was conducted on EN24 as suggested by Taguchi's L9 orthogonal array for three factors and three levels. The objective of this work is to optimize the process parameters such as cutting speed, feed and depth of cut to achieve minimum surface roughness and minimum cutting force individually and combinedly by using Taguchi - Grey analysis. From this investigation, it was found that the combined minimum surface roughness and cutting force could be attained under the conditions of 900 rpm of spindle speed, 0.2 mm/rev of feed and 0.25 mm of depth of cut.
