The aim of the study is to demonstrate our results after stapled haemorrhoidectomy for 4(th) degree haemorrhoids. During 1998-2002 56 consecutive patients with 4(th) degree haemorrhoids underwent stapled haemorrhoidectomy. During the postoperative period, 6 (10,7%) patients experienced pain. Ten (17,8%) patients experienced gas incontinence and two of them also reported soiling. Recurrence of the haemorrhoidal disease occurred in 17 (30.4%) patients. In conclusion, the stapled haemorrhoidectomy is a quite painless but not effective enough technique for the treatment of 4(th) degree haemorrhoids.
