Mature benign cystic teratomas are among the most common ovarian neoplasms, constituting 95% of germ cell ovarian tumors and 15% to 54% of ail ovarian tumors. Ovarian teratomas are found bilaterally in 10% to 13% of cases.' Despite the frequency of this neoplasm, the appearance of multiple synchronous ovarian teratomas within the same ovary is a rare occurrence. We were unable to find any prior sonographic descriptions of this entity or any previous reports in which a preoperative diagnosis was made. We report a case of bilateral benign cystic teratomas, including multiple teratomas in the right ovary, diagnosed preoperatively on the basis of transvaginal ultrasonography.
