Eugenia bragae (Myrtaceae), a new species from the Atlantic Forest of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil

During recent field expeditions to forest remnants in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a distinctive Eugenia species was collected and is here proposed as a new taxon. This study is based on literature and herbarium and field collections. The conservation status was assessed based on the IUCN Red List categories and criteria. The map of occurrence records was built through QGIS Desktop software using shapefiles from open-source databases. The newly described Eugenia bragae is currently known only from the Atlantic Forest in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is here assigned to Eugenia subg. Pseudeugenia and compared with E. culicina. We also provide a table comparing the new taxon with E. altissima and E. laruotteana.
