This paper presents an assessment of the determinants of food security status among the farming households in Benue State, Nigeria The paper employed the logit regression analysis to assess the determinants of food security status and a multiple response analysis to ascertain the causes of food insecurity in the state In this paper, nine regressors were regressed against a dichotomous regressand (food security status) it was found that, household size (-0 171), household annual income (0 259), age of the household's head (-0 149), quantity of own farm production (0 492) and child dependency ratio (0 119) were the most influential determinants of the food security status of the farming households in Benue State In a multiple response, 88 44 percent attributed food security problems to poverty Recommendations were that, holistic approach be made by all stakeholders to transform the agricultural sector to a viable economic and business sector by reducing the post harvest vagaries and improved production
