A simple effective method for estimating the [18O] enrichment of water mixtures

Isotopically enriched water, [O-18] H2O, recovered from the synthesis of [F-18] fluorine-labelled PET radio-pharmaceuticals, is frequently diluted with natural water, [O-16] H2O. The extent of isotope dilution limits the usefulness of the recovered water. A simple method for determining the [O-18] enrichment of water mixtures could aid PET cyclotron facilities to calculate the [F-18] yields to be expected when the recovered [O-18] H2O is reused. A gravimetric method (repeatability for high enrichment +/-0.3% [O-18], detection limit similar to2% [O-18] enrichment) is described. (C) 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
