Circular cylindrical single- and multi-compartment silos, large silos, and circular stores have proved to be successful for storing powdery bulk materials, such as cement, cement raw meal or fly ash, and granular bulk materials, such as clinker granulated blastfurnace slag or crushed limestone. This article describes the multi-compartment silos which have become increasingly important in recent years since, as a result of changed market requirements, the cement manufacturers have tended to produce composite cements by mixing the finish-ground individual components rather than. by intergrinding. The design loads used when planning multicompartment silos are explained, advice is given on the static calculations and construction details, and different methods of production. are described. A description is also given, of some multi-compartment silos using examples of existing silos.
