In reply to Schatzeichel we comment on some of the issues he raises with respect to the linkages between rational choice theories and emotion. In particular, we discuss the connections between cognition and emotion and the recent work on this topic, as well as the limits of rational choice as a theory of action. We conclude with comments on reductionism and challenge his perspective on the scientific division of labor across fields of inquiry. Specifically, we hold open the possibility of future collaboration on the study of emotions and the analysis of rational choice behavior with those in the fields of neuroeconomics and neuroscience more generally. This entails maintaining an open stance toward working across disciplinary boundaries.
