Antitumor antibiotics: Bleomycin, endiynes, and mitomycin

摘要
Natural-product-derived cytotoxics are still widely used in chemotherapy. A review is given of the current level of understanding and emerging trends relevant to the DNA-damaging metabolite families of the bleomycins, 9- and 10-membered enediynes, and mitomycins. A comparison of resistance mechanisms within producing organisms and those predominant among tumor cells reveals potential for continued development of these essential anticancer agents.
