摘要
In present investigation the wild and commercial mushrooms extracts were evaluated for their in vitro inhibition of microbial growth and biofilm formation by multi resistant bacteria. Gram-negative (E. coli) and Gram-positive (S. aureus, B. subtilis) biofilm producing bacteria were used to verify the activity of Lentinus edodes, Pleurotus ostreatus, Volvariella volvacea, Hericium erinaceus and Ganoderma lucidum methanolic and ethanolic extracts. Preliminary antibacterial screening showed that the mushrooms extracts showed excellent activity. Both methanolic and ethanolic extracts of P. ostreatus and L. edoded showed maximum zone of inhibition 30 and 32 mm against B. subtilis. Among the tested extracts presented the highest inhibition of biofilm formation against S. aureus (57%) and B. subtilis (69%). E. coli showed the low susceptibility against extracts inhibitory effect on biofilm production with highest inhibition of 55.3% by L. edodes. The extracts also showed antioxidant potential with maximum concentration of phenolics observed in V. volvacea and G. lucidum 14.15 and 14.32 mg/g, respectively, average concentration of flavonoids was in the range of 3.72-8.96 mg/g. The DPPH radical scavenging activity by V volvacea and H. erinaceus showed 82 and 79% inhibition, respectively. Present investigation revealed that wild and commercial mushrooms are potential source of bioactive compounds and there is need to purify these bioactive compounds as well as their more detailed in vitro and in vivo investigations are recommended.
