Performance Analysis of GFDMA and SC-FDMA in Rayleigh and Gaussian Fading Channel

OFDMA and SC-FDMA were chosen as strong candidates for uplink transmission in 3GPP-LTE. OFDMA is a full-fledged multicarrier modulation scheme but has the disadvantage of high PAPR. SC-FDMA achieves low PAPR by spreading the constellation points over entire bandwidth but lacks efficient spectral utilization and prone to Inter Carrier Interference ( ICI) at cell edge. Grouped Frequency Division Multiple Access ( GFDMA) is a modified version of SC-FDMA that combines SC-FDMA with IMD-FDE to provide multi-user detection capability. Unlike SC-FDMA, GFDMA suffers from Carrier Frequency Offset ( CFO) that arises due to Multiple Access Interference ( MAI). To select a transmission scheme that offers more resistance to adverse channel conditions and provide better performance, impact of CFO in GFDMA and SC-FDMA systems will be evaluated by channel estimation techniques under Rayleigh and Gaussian fading channels.
