Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency is defined as the maldigestion of foods due to inadequate pancreatic secretion. It suposes a risk of malnutrition, conditioned by poor digestion/malabsorption of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and lipids) and micronutrients (fat-soluble vitamins (A, D ), E, K), calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper). This alteration is also asociated with and increased risk of morbidity and mortality and the increased risk of cardiovascular events, for that reason, its early diagnosis is considered essential. Despite its relevance, the limitations of current diagnostic tests make its diagnosis difficult. This fact should not be an obstacle to the early start of enzyme replacement therapy, which is effective and improves the nutritional status and quality of life of these patients.
