Casino's gamble with status epilepticus

Casino, a 6-month-old, 48-lb (22-kg) male Labrador retriever, arrived at the emergency hospital in status epilepticus. According to the owners, he had been having seizures for I hour. Earlier that day, Casino became lethargic and had a grand mal seizure that progressed to status epilepticus as observed at the initial presentation. He was in good health otherwise, was fully vaccinated, and had not previously displayed signs of seizures or other neurologic abnormalities. Casino appeared normal in the morning and had eaten and drank as usual. There was a possibility of mushroom ingestion because Casino was allowed to roam free at the owner's weekend cabin.
