How to do research

In this article, I describe my conception and practice of research in my field of expertise, the analysis of political behaviour. For me, doing research is a collective work that is carried out in a team. This research is primarily concerned with fundamental descriptive questions. When analysing the causes of causal relationships, it is best to use experimental or quasi-experimental designs whenever possible. The most tedious but crucial aspect is the writing of manuscripts, which is more bearable in small doses and on a daily basis. The most enjoyable part is the creation of the research instrument, when one can still cherish the illusion that one's research will be 'the best in the world'.
