The data of studies on etiology, pathogenesis, diagnostic and treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) over the past decade are reviewed. This period is characterized by significant achievement reached in different fields of MS research, the most prominent being a new disease modifying treatment allowing to first-ever decrease the activity of the pathological process in many MS patients. Unresolved problems related to the origin and attempts of correction of neurodegenerative process are discussed.
