Opening speech given on the occasion of the 2000 Open House at GMD - German National Research Center for Information Technology in Darmstadt The talk deals with the four aspects of security as an economic factor: missing security, offered security, security research and the policy of security research. This view includes individuals, companies, and organisations as well as society and adresses their vulnerabilities.
