Global cities, global commodity chains and economic governance: conceptual reflections and a case study on Mexico City

The aim of this paper is to focus on the control functions of producer service companies, which so far have received only little attention in global city research. To this end, I conceptualize global cities as nodes of governance in value chains. On the empirical level, I take the classical megacity Mexico City as a case and argue that also cities of the "Global South" assume functions of global economic governance.
