Work-force development: Nurtured by SEMATECH, expanding with SIA

SEMATECH's Partnering for Workforce Development program was conceived at a workshop preceded by local programs in Austin, Phoenix, Albuquerque, Portland, and elsewhere. It coalesced with other US initiatives, and expanded into US academic institutions with prime examples in the Southwest. The program has now been transferred to the Semiconductor Industry Association with loftier goals. The initial two years produced successes that clearly demonstrated this initiative's value to the industry.
