The American Heart Association scientific statement on cardiogenic shock and the National Cardiogenic Shock Initiative have provided the impetus to advance knowledge and development of national guidelines for cardiogenic shock. We evaluate the current state of knowledge surrounding cardiogenic shock and limitations to the development of national guidelines.
