Analysis of the elasto-plastic failure behavior of wood under compression

摘要
The knowledge of the compressive strength is relevant to design wood members as columns, structural joists and also for connections. FE methods are very useful to investigate such complex engineered structural details, but it is necessary to know the complete marked elastic-plastic strength behavior of wood under compression. In the literature, insufficient information on the complete compression behavior for solid timber or timber products is available. Based on that, compression tests with different timber species and laminated veneer lumber (LVL) were carried out. Both, the stress-strain behavior including softening or hardening parts as well as the material properties using different evaluation methods are analyzed and described.
