The pathophysiology of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis

Allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis are very common manifestations of allergy affecting similar to 10-30% of adults and up to 40% of children. An improved understanding of the immune and inflammatory mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of these allergic disorders has provided important insight into the pathogenesis of allergic symptoms related to rhinitis and conjunctivitis, as well as identified potential novel therapeutic targets to interrupt the proinflammatory pathways that contribute to ongoing rhinitis and conjunctivitis symptoms.
