Psychological effects on women with "surgical menopause" versus on women with "natural menopause" prospective study about 95 cases

Aim: The aim of our prospective study was to compare the physical, sexual and psychological complains on women with natural menopause versus those with surgical one. Method: 120 women totally were enrolled in 2 groups: N (natural menopause), and S (Surgical menopause) to answer to a questionnaire regarding symptoms after menopause. Only 95 women completed the questionnaire correctly and answered a wide range of questions concerning their psychological profile. 39 women in-group N and 44 women in-group S were eligible regarding physical, psychological and sexual complaints. Results: N group of women reported less problems compared to S group, but there were no significant differences in their total psychological profile. Only 6 patients in S group presented transitional postoperative depression. Conclusion: According to our results hysterectomy seems to induce more problems than natural menopause but no major change in the psychological profile.
