New results on sex recognition in squamate reptiles

A survey of some sexing methods in reptiles and a short introduction to genital morphology in squamate reptiles is given. The bearing of the copulatory organs in female lizards and snakes - so called hemiclitores - on some sexing methods is demonstrated and discussed. Further important distinguishing characters of hemipenes and hemiclitores are given, e. g. concerning the widely used probing and x-raying methods.
